Creativity Tip: Make a Map!
Artellagram 6-23-12

Sometimes the most effective maps are really simple! Try this: think of what you most want in your life, and isolate 3-4 steps or choices to get you there.

For example, I made this simple map to inspire me to be sure there is plenty of time for rest and dreaming in each day, and to remind myself that taking care of myself is taking care of business.

I call this map the “Map to True Productivity”:

One look at the map and I’m reminded that rest truly is productive.

To make this really enjoyable, use art supplies that you enjoy. If you enjoy a vintage look, try decorating an old map, such as the example shown here. If you care for a more modern look, try playing with creating your map in a digital art program. You also might try collage, painting, sketching, or a mixed media map. Or how about something completely “off the map”:-) like a 3-D map or even a creative writing map?

A map with simple instructions can take you a long way… especially if you really enjoy the process of creating it!

If you’re intrigued by the idea of mapping and what creative mapping might do for your project, goal, or creative business, you might like to take a look at Mapping and Mentoring with Marney, which begins its 3rd cycle in July (applications due July 7).
